Start your career in the global shipping industry – Apply for the Wilhelmsen Summer Internship 2026!

Are you looking for a summer job within the shipping industry? Work with us on an interdisciplinary project where you’ll explore how startups and established businesses can work together to unlock innovation. As part of this project, you will identify the friction points and opportunities that arise when scaling new ventures within a large corporate environment. You’ll learn how innovation happens in practice, not in theory, and your findings will directly shape how Wilhelmsen grows its ventures in the years ahead.

Who are Wilhelmsen?

Founded in Norway in 1861, Wilhelmsen is now a comprehensive global maritime group providing products and services to the merchant fleet, along with supplying crew and technical management. With the world’s largest maritime network on call 24/7, our people can deliver products and services all over the world.

We are committed to shaping the maritime industry and seek to develop new opportunities and collaborations in renewables, zero-emission shipping, and marine digitalization through our venture program. Wilhelmsen’s ventures aim to accelerate change in the maritime industry by developing scalable solutions that can reduce emissions, improve efficiency, and enable new business models.

What will you do?

This summer’s project will focus on understanding how ventures can successfully scale within a corporate ecosystem. Using Pelagus 3D as a flagship case, you and your team will explore how Wilhelmsen’s existing business units can become early adopters and growth partners for internal ventures, and what stands in the way of that collaboration today.

Your work will include:

  • Mapping out existing synergies between Wilhelmsen’s ventures and core business units.

  • Identifying friction points such as commercial structures, organizational processes, or cultural barriers that limit adoption.

  • Proposing a practical framework for how ventures can scale more effectively within the Wilhelmsen ecosystem.

  • Exploring how lessons from one venture can be applied across other ventures in the portfolio.

  • Close collaboration with Pelagus 3D, RaaLabs, C-Loop, Ceataec, Revelle Emission Monitoring, Hecla Emissions Management and Massterly.

By the end of the internship, you will present actionable recommendations to senior management on how the group can better leverage internal strengths to accelerate venture growth.

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking curious students with strong analytical skills who enjoy working in teams and collaborating across disciplines. You should be motivated by problemsolving and eager to explore both the strategic and operational aspects of innovation. We aim to build a diverse team capable of breaking down complex problems and presenting clear, actionable insights.

We welcome applicants from a wide range of studies, including engineering, industrial economics, business and administration, entrepreneurship, logistics and psychology, who have an interest in innovation, sustainability, and the maritime industry. 3rd- and 4th-year students will be prioritized.

Why should you apply?

You will gain hands-on experience in a global maritime organization that is actively shaping the future of the industry. Through this project, you’ll learn how innovation and venture scaling happen in one of the world’s largest shipping groups, balancing startup agility with corporate structure.

The internship gives you the chance to develop valuable skills in stakeholder management, strategy, and problem-solving, while building connections across Wilhelmsen’s global network. Many former interns have continued their careers in the company through our graduate program after finishing their studies.

What you need to know:

  • The project will run for six weeks with a three-week vacation period in between, from June 15th to August 14th.

  • The work location is Wilhelmsen’s head office at Lysaker, Oslo.

  • Applicants must hold a valid work permit for Norway for the entire duration of the internship and be able to communicate effectively in English.

  • Proficiency in a Scandinavian language is considered an advantage.

  • Motivational Letter
