We are looking for a Material Engineer to work with evaluation and selection of materials for energy infrastructure exposed to demanding conditions. The role focuses on how materials behave over time under mechanical loads and harsh environments, and how this affects safety and performance.

Key responsibilities

  • Assess metallic materials and coatings for use in hydrogen, ammonia, and related systems
  • Provide technical support for the evaluation and selection of materials for ammonia cracking equipment, including review of operating conditions
  • Study degradation mechanisms such as corrosion, hydrogen embrittlement, fatigue, creep, and nitriding
  • Evaluate material behaviour under long-term loading and realistic operating conditions
  • Review test data, standards, and research literature
  • Support engineering decisions through technical analysis and recommendations
  • Work with engineers in Höegh Evi and researchers at NTNU

Qualifications

  • MSc student in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Materials Engineering, Nanotechnology, Metallurgy, or similar
  • Good academic results
  • Fluent in English, written and spoken
  • Interest in materials behaviour and engineering applications
  • Experience with lab work, simulations, or programming is an advantage, but not required

Relevant technical interests

  • Materials selection for industrial applications
  • Structural integrity, fracture mechanics, fatigue, or creep
  • FEM or numerical modelling
  • Basic programming, for example Python
  • Corrosion and high-temperature materials behaviour
  • Hydrogen effects in metals or ammonia environments
  • Experimental testing and interpretation of results

Personal qualities

  • Dependable and able to take responsibility for own work
  • Curious and willing to learn
  • Able to work both independently and with others
  • Structured and able to meet deadlines
  • Clear communicator

What we offer

  • Summer internship
  • The position is based in Oslo, can be remote and is intended as a summer internship that may continue as an MSc thesis in collaboration with NTNU
  • Work with real engineering problems in energy infrastructure
  • Close collaboration between industry and academia
  • Guidance from experienced engineers and researchers
